FORCED ENDINGS: WHEN THE THERAPIST COMES FIRST

£15FORCED ENDINGS: WHEN THE THERAPIST COMES FIRST
The Hallam Institute of Psychotherapy invites you to a presentation by
Anne Power
An attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist and author of
“Forced Endings in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. Attachment and Loss in Retirement”
Routledge – August 2015
Anne will draw upon her research findings with therapists who imposed an ending of their clients for retirement, sabbatical, relocation or illness. She considers the impact on the therapeutic alliance when the therapist’s needs intrude – how this can compromise the work but also how such an intrusion may allow for the client’s further development.
This topic is one which many of us may relate to yet our training and our accrediting organisations seem to have little to say on the topic. What are the ethical issues associated with forced endings? Where and to whom do we turn for support when we find ourselves in a similar situation?
The presentation will be followed by an open discussion along with a panel of therapists who have had to deal with such endings or who are otherwise contemplating retirement. This promises to be an interesting and lively discussion.
The meeting will be held at “Share”, 73 Wilkinson Street, Sheffield, S10 3GJ on Saturday 23rd January 2016 from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
CPD certificates and receipts will be issued at the event.
The cost will be £10 for HIP Members and £15 for Non-Members
